Hey, folks. Got a presentation lined up for July 12 that I'm excited about, and I think should be interesting to lots of folks. The folks from Integrity Linux Systems Division will give a short presentation on what Linux diskless systems are and why you might use them, followed by a technical demonstartion. You can see their web page on their product using Linux diskless systems: http://www.integritylinux.com/index.html
>>From that page:
"IDEAS fully integrated diskless Linux solutions address low cost of ownership, simplified maintenance and Government classified computing/ security issues. Each node in the above configuration boots from it's NIC and seeks an available Linux Diskless Server on the network for it's Linux O/S and network configuration. Any home directories DO NOT need to be on the diskless Linux server. All Network attached servers or appliances can be used, decreasing any need for additional hardware and solidifying your current IT investment."
I spoke to Bob Bolz of Integrity, and he told me they've been doing Linux diskless systems for 6 years, originally to solve a problem for LANL.
This sounds like the best answer to the desktop management nightmare that I've heard.
Integrity Networking Systems, Inc., of which the Linux division is a part of, was recently included in the New Mexico Flying 40.
