Perl is a stable, cross-platform, open-source scripting language which is available on many platforms.

Perl has a very extensive set of modules available via the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN) (http://search.cpan.org), and since it makes the easy things easy and the hard things possible, it is popular for a wide range of tasks, ranging from simple shell scripts to enterprise-grade web applications.

There is a local Perl Mongers (http://www.perlmongers.org) group serving the Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Los Alamos area:
